Is Tenerife’s third municipality, and considered the third in extension after Arona and la Orotava. It promises high economic expectations since it boasts the island’s main airport, the Reina Sofía, as well as the Industrial Park of Granadilla, and also a great harbour is being projected.
A great part of its active population dedicates itself to the services sector, specially to tourism in the municipalities that are close o the beaches of el Médano or La Tejita, even though agriculture still is the basic activity, characterised by its dedication to being self- supplied producing cereals, vegetables, fruits (specially oranges) and above all, potatoes. Tomatoes are also produced in the low lands and green house produce has gained importance, such as vegetables and flowers, of great demand in foreign markets.
